Pouring water between two jugs
What to set out
- Two small jugs or glasses of the same size, glass if you have it
- Water, enough to fill one of them halfway
- A sponge or cloth, folded, on the tray
- A tray or a placemat to hold the work
The Presentation
- 1Fill one jug halfway. Set both jugs on the tray, the full one on her left.
- 2Carry the tray with two hands. Set it on the table. Sit at her right side.
- 3Put your thumb through the handle and lift the full jug. Say nothing.
- 4Pour slowly into the empty jug, until the water is gone. Set the jug down.
- 5Wipe the one drop with the sponge, without comment.
- 6Look at her. Say: now you. Then move your hands away.
What to watch for
Watch her elbow and her eyes, not the water. Spilling is part of the work, and the sponge is the answer to it.
